Tutberidze beat Plushchenko on the first day of the Russian Junior Championship.

Read Time:3 Minute, 31 Second

At the Russian Junior Figure Skating Championship the short program ended in the girls’ competition. The best result was shown by Alina Gorbacheva from Tver. Darya Sadkova came second and Agata Petrova from St. Petersburg got the third place.

Skaters from “Plushenko’s Angels” did not get into the top three according to the results of the Short Program at the Russian Championship.

Sofia Titova’s triple, on the whole, worked. Sofia did three and a half turns, but twisted her shoulders on the exit and was unable to pin the second jump in the cascade. More precisely, Titova jumped a triple toe loop, but over the triple. It was not counted because the skater touched the ice with her free leg during the step. The pupil of Plushenko lost a lot of points because of this error, which is inadmissible for the short program. Even her high score did not help Sofia to get high in the standings – 60.01 points and only 16th place.

Veronika Zhilina seemed to have stabilized her triple axel. In the first half of the season, Nika performed it very confidently. Unfortunately, the skater got nervous in Perm and opened her jump early, twisting a turn and a half of the planned three and a half. Theoretically Zhilina could have taken a risk and made another tryxel, correcting her mistake. But Veronika was smarter – in the second half of the program the skater went for a stable triple lutz-triple loop, in order not to lose points. Towards the end of her performance, the skater began to rush, unable to keep up with the music. Because of this, the last spin went only to the third level of difficulty – Nika did not have time to finish all of the positions. Nika’s score of 66.94 was ninth.

Agata Petrova is making her junior debut this year. She works with the whole coaching staff of Alexei Mishin. In some competitions she was accompanied by the European Champion Sofia Samodurova who has been recently collaborating with her former coach. Before the tournament many of Mishin’s star pupils including Evgeniy Semenenko and Lisa Tuktamysheva wished her good luck. The admonition from the adults helped – with her best rolling of the season, Agata took third intermediate place with a score of 68.81 points.

Darya Sadkova had to defend the honor of “Khrustalny” without Dvoglazova. The skater is in her second year of training in Tutberidze’s group, although she continues to represent her native republic of Mari El. Sadkova managed with the short program. There were no questions to her jumps – everything was correct and completed. But one of the rotations at the beginning had a third level of difficulty. During the revision the technical panel still raised the difficulty to the maximum. Dasha’s style is very similar to that of Anna Scherbakova, but she does not like this comparison. Though, of course, lyrics suits her very well. 71,46 points – second place.

Alina Gorbacheva is the only skater who performed at the adult level this season. Perm is a happy city for the athlete representing the Tver region. At the Russian Grand Prix stage she promptly broke into the top, beating Kseniya Sinitsyna with a clean quad. Participating in the Russian Championships and the Channel One Cup (on Alina Zagitova’s team) helped Gorbacheva gain confidence. And her Cruella looks chic for so many starts, a level above her rivals. Alina got 74,51 points in short program and took the lead with a small advantage.

After the start Alina said that she came to this start to get a place in the Russian national team. All chances are there!

The results of the first day of the Russian Championships are really impressive. But in the free skating it will be all about the elements of ultras and their stability. Gorbacheva planned two four-fold salchows, Zhilina had a junction, a salchow and a toe loop, Titova had only a junction. Gordeeva had a record of four-four Salchov and Touloup, but she did not have much success with these jumps. So in the free skating the competition will be even tougher. And the pupils of Plushchenko can even be in the top three.
