Ilia Malinin, an American figure skater, became the first person in history to successfully perform all four jumps in competition.

Today, Malinin won the Grand Prix Final in Beijing. In his free skating program he presented a quadruple rittberger for the first time.

Earlier, competing in ISU competitions, he successfully performed a quadruple axel, quadruple lutz, quadruple flip, quadruple tulup and quadruple salchow.

Ilia Malinin aims to perform all six quadruple jumps in one program.

At today’s Grand Prix Final in Beijing, Malinin presented five quadruple jumps: axel (with fall), lutz, salchow, rittberger and tulup.

“I realize that the quadruple axel is my recognizable jump, you could say it’s my brand. But I’ll be happy when someone else can perform it, I’m really looking forward to it. It would be interesting to perform a parallel quadaxel.

Am I thinking about cascading with a quad axel? Maybe that’s one of my goals for next off-season.

My goal is to perform all six quads in one program. I’m hoping that once things settle down, I’ll be able to do it. It’s a challenge, but I’m ready for it,” Malinin shared.

Ilia Malinin expressed his assessment for his performance in the free program at the Grand Prix Final.

“It was an amazing feeling, at this point I worked very hard. My main task was to make all the jumps automatic.

Today’s outing on the ice may not have been my best, but it was more important for me to feel good in front of the audience than to score points. Overall, I’m happy with the result. My goal was to perform a quadruple axel in both the short and free program. I am not disappointed, but glad that I tried. For me this jump is not a stress, but a source of pleasure.

What went wrong today? Perhaps I was in too much of a hurry. I should have approached it more calmly.

But, you know, I’m just happy today that I was able to do a quadruple rittberger successfully. I wasn’t very good at it in the last two weeks, and to be honest, it was my main goal for today’s performance. I was thinking about it much more than the axel,” Malinin shared.
