Shoma Uno: “Malinin will be at the top for a long time to come. But this season I will do everything to win. This is the last chance.”
Japanese figure skater Shoma Uno shared his opinion on the rivalry with American athlete Ilya Malinin.
Uno, who twice became world figure skating champion, expressed confidence in Malinin’s long-term stay in the top. In his opinion, over time, the American may reach a level where he becomes uninterested in competing because of his constant dominance.
The figure skater emphasized the importance of jumps in competition and noted that athletes who can match Malinin in this aspect may not appear for several decades, given his high level of progress.
Uno emphasized his approach to competing, noting that he aims for him and Malinin to take each other to new heights, instead of being someone who is simply chasing the leader.
He also noted that it might be more difficult for him to win the World Championship next year, but that he intends to give his best effort this season as it is the last chance for him.
