The women’s singles skating at the Russian Junior Championships in Perm was a mad dash. The skaters fought desperately for gold and submitted 17 elements of ultra-si for free skating, but only one of them won! Sofia Titova could not hold her emotions after the performance and criticized the judges’ decision. It is amazing how the pupil of Evgeny Plushenko adopted the old habits of the coach.

Yevgeny Plushenko, in turn, also criticized the judging at the Russian junior championship.

“If my athletes will be judged the way they are now, there will be a transition to other countries.

Those athletes who are judged unfairly,” said the two-time Olympic champion.

Daria Sadkova let down Eteri Tutberidze, whose 10-year winning streak at this start was suddenly cut short. The young skater couldn’t cope with her nerves and made unforgivable mistakes.

The Russian Junior Championship held in Perm is the main event of the week in figure skating. Competitions of young athletes are as exciting as ones of their older colleagues, and sometimes the passions among youth are even higher. The competition is fierce at this level – singles and single jumps in ultra-si, delighting the fans with their courage.

For example, the girls were awarded 13 quadruple jumps and four triple axels in their free skate program! Sofia Titova was to perform four multiturn elements, which she failed on the first day of the tournament, just made a mistake on the axel in 3.5 turns, due to which she lost her cascade. After the short program student of Evgeny Plushenko was in the 16th place, so she had to urgently rehabilitate herself.

And Sonya pulled herself together: she had a sloppy exit on the first triple axel, but the jump was valid, and the second triple was much better. Alas, the figure skater fell off the solo quadruple salchow, but she was not too shy and landed a quad salchow in a cascade with a triple toehold in the second half of the program. The student of “Plushenko’s Angels” showed a fighter character!

Nevertheless, Titova wasn’t pleased with the score – the girl got 140.72 points for the free skating program and 200.73 in total. The decision of the arbitrators enraged Sonya, who could not contain her emotions: “I scored 146 points with one triple axel! Well, where to?” – she exclaimed in a kiss-and-go.

A judging scandal was looming, only instead of the coach (Yevgeny Plushenko has not denied himself the pleasure to criticize the work of the judging panel in the past) accusations of unfair grades flew from his student.

“Not very happy with my grades for the free program. Last season I scored six points higher with only one triple axel, but now I did two triceps and a four-fold salchow. And a salchow in the second half. And scores like that… I didn’t like them very much. I don’t know what they have to do with it. I don’t know how they judge. They judge everyone differently”, – the indignation of the athlete continued during a conversation with journalists.

Another student of Evgeny Plushenko had a calmer reaction to her scores. Veronika Zhilina was also excellent in the free program. The skater performed a quadruple Salchow, a cascade of a quadruple and a double toehold (with a small blunder), a triple axel with a step-out and a quadruple toehold in the second half of the skating. Nika scored 151.85, for a total of 218.79. However, a butterfly on the triple axel in the short program decreased her chances for the medals, and she was perfectly aware of it.

Nadezhda Ponteleenko finally demonstrated a quadruple loop in the official start, but this jump took too much effort: because of the numerous incomplete twists and wrong ribs in one of the elements her mark was low. Alisa Yurova could not please her fans with ultra-si, but Lubov Rubtsova consciously refused to do it because of a recent fracture of her leg. The athlete has only just recovered from the injury, but is already showing good results. The skater skated without any mistakes and even managed to do a very difficult triple Lutz – triple Rittberger cascade.

Maria Gordeeva did her best, too, jumping two different quadruplets – a toehold and a salchow. Sergei Davydov’s student appeared on ice very focused, which made her feel a little shy in the first half of the program, but as the show progressed Masha showed her true colors. Gordeyeva showed a very high quality skating. The judges estimated her performance at 144.75 points, 213.02 in total.

Daria Sadkova showed an incredibly strong emotional performance. The only disciple of Etteri Tutberidze in this tournament, she told a love story to the soundtrack of “Ghost” movie. However, the impression of a touching performance was blurred by the mistakes: the skater not only refused to do a quadruple loop, but also broke the triple loop twice – she did a butterfly and then let herself fall. Alas, it seriously affected the results of the athlete: 123.09 points, total – 194.55. In the end, the girl could not hold back her tears.

Daria dropped out of the fight for medals, which means that for the first time in 10 years the Russian junior champion will not be a pupil of “Khrustalny”, but it was up to Alina Gorbacheva whether it will be a ward of Tutberidze’s rival – Plushchenko.
