WADA believes that Kamila Valieva took trimetazidine as treatment.

According to The Times with reference to the motivation part of the CAS decision in Valiyeva’s case, during the trial WADA representatives provided their version of how the banned drug got into the athlete’s body.

WADA noted that in 2020 Valieva was diagnosed with “sports heart” – a harmless condition that can be caused by an intensive period of training.

They also provided Russian literature that suggests trimetazidine is beneficial for young athletes enduring such heavy training loads.

Athletic heart is a sports medicine concept, a symptom-complex of characteristic adaptive and adaptive changes in the heart resulting from increased physical exertion, resulting in an enlarged heart and decreased resting heart rate.
