On November 9-10, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) held hearings on the doping case of the Russian figure skater. The verdict is expected by the end of January 2024.

“The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed to CAS in the interests of justice for athletes and clean sport. We are pleased that we were able to present our arguments before the panel of arbitrators and now await the decision.

We have maintained our request for a four-year period of ineligibility and the invalidation of all of the athlete’s results from the date of sample collection, including at the 2022 Beijing Olympics,” the WADA press office said.

Valieva tested positive for trimetazidine in December 2021, which became known in February during the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. There, the figure skater won the team event, but the awarding did not take place due to the start of the investigation.

In November 2022, WADA had already called for a 4-year disqualification of the Russian skater.
