Thomas Bach expressed the need to respect the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against Kamila Valieva.

Earlier, CAS decided to disqualify the Russian figure skater for four years for violating anti-doping rules and annulled her results from December 25, 2021.

“We have taken note of the CAS decision, which the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will of course agree with. Everyone has the right to criticize the court’s decision, to have their own opinion, and we must fully respect this decision.

For us, this whole case is another confirmation that our determination, our requests, which we have made repeatedly during the doping cases, are aimed at the fact that it is not only the athletes who matter, but also the athletes’ entourage, whose activities should be investigated more, better and deeper.

This applies even more to situations where we are talking about minors,” TASS quoted IOC President Thomas Bach as saying at a press conference during the Youth Olympic Games in South Korea.

“I can only urge all organizations responsible for anti-doping, all agencies to look very carefully at the environment.

We need to make sure that when we sanction, we also identify the environment and, again, apply even tougher sanctions to the environment when it comes to minors,” Bach said.
