Next year, the age limit will be set at 16 years of age for competitions within the Russian Federation. This information was provided by the general director of the Russian Figure Skating Federation, Alexander Kogan.

“There were times when we allowed juniors to increase competition in women’s singles. And now it is already high. In the Grand Prix stages, as far as I know, more than 70 women participated. However, ISU raised the age to 17.

Traditionally our country, in order to keep ahead of the curve, has traditionally set the age limit a year younger than the international rules, and this rule we adhere to. So next year we will have the age limit from the age of 16,” Kogan said.

“But why would we cut off the juniors? We’re going to have so many unique athletes there that they just can’t co-exist. There are only three places, we will simply stop the development of junior skating.

There are units of foreign skaters who are nice to look at and won’t fulfill the content of 30 years ago. Jumping two double jumps? We had Slutskaya performing it to the hilt. Do we want to go back exclusively to triple jumps? We can go back to three or two.

We have to realize that figure skating is a sport. And there have to be criteria that allow us to see the overcoming of opportunities. We look at men who spin quadruples and do not think about returning the content that was 20 years ago,” Match TV quoted Kogan as saying.
