Kevin Amos addressed the fans
“It’s even more important to speak up today.
Living with the feeling of never living up to all the expectations of me, never being good enough, never doing enough. The fear of failing and dreaming of something unattainable. Learning to listen to myself and giving myself the time I need to heal my wounds. I don’t want to forget those scars. I want to be able to look at them without shame. To grow, to surpass myself, to love, to move forward.
That’s what sports taught me from a very young age, but as time goes on, I sometimes forget it. To be able to look back, to appreciate what has been accomplished, to appreciate the present moment and look forward to the future.
It’s not the end of something, it’s just the beginning of something even more wonderful.
I no longer want to be ashamed of being myself.
Today, I intend to put my mental health front and center so that I can shine as an athlete and live as a human being.
I want to thank so many people after this European Championships for all the love I received in person or in messages. Thank you to everyone around me, fans, skaters, friends, coaches, the French Figure Skating Federation, international professionals and many others for the support you have given me.
The love I received made me realize that I am more than a performance, it’s something I never believed in before.
We will see each other again soon… I promise you.
P.S. These championships do not reflect my work and the values I want to convey through my skating.” – Wrote Kevin Amoz.
