ISU awarded the U.S. team the first place in the figure skating team event at the 2022 Olympics

The International Skating Union (ISU) deducted Valiyeva’s results from the overall team standings. Thus, the Russian national team dropped from first place to third.

The gold medal was awarded to the U.S. team and the silver to Japan.

The USOPC USA has confirmed that U.S. figure skaters will receive gold in the team event for the 2022 Games.

“Sarah Hirshland confirms she spoke with the IOC and received the awesome news that the 2022 U.S. Figure Skating Team athletes have been awarded the gold medal in the team event at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. Let the celebrations begin.

Congratulations Evan Bates, Karen Chen, Nathan Chen, Madison Chock, Zachary Donohue, Brandon Frazier, Madison Hubbell, Alexa Knierim and Vincent Zhou.” – USOPC said in a statement

On the eve it became known that the Court of Arbitration for Sport decided to disqualify Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva for 4 years. The period of disqualification is counted from December 25, 2021.

The International Skating Union (ISU) will decide on the approval of the results of the Olympic team figure skating tournament on February 7.
