Ilia Malinin about the scandalous joke: “I apologize to everyone who was offended by my comments. I hope to learn a lesson from that.
American figure skater Ilia Malinin apologized for the scandalous statements.
Earlier in his social network, Malinin in response to a joking request to “prove that you are straight” said that he could not remain so, because otherwise he would not get high marks for components.
“In order for me to learn from my mistakes and move forward, the U.S. Figure Skating Federation offered me sensitivity training to help my development and help me better understand the LGBTQ+ community and other under-supported people.
I apologize to anyone who was offended by my comments. I hope to learn a lesson from this and get through it,” Malinin wrote.
