Eteri Tutberidze commented on the verdict in the case of Kamila Valieva.
“For two years now, I have not commented in any way on the situation with the doping detected in Kamila Valieva at the Russian Championships in 2021, despite the undeserved endless heckling and accusations in my direction.
Our entire team was strictly forbidden to comment or evaluate what was going on in any way, as it could affect and hinder the investigation.
And I, probably more than anyone else, wanted this story to be thoroughly investigated so that I would not be left with any questions, even if it was an oversight, a mistake or a crime on someone’s part.
For many years now I have been working sometimes without weekends and vacations for the sake of my athletes’ results, and I more than anyone else want to know what happened to Kamila and how this drug got into her system. All my athletes were and remain clean, I am for clean sport, otherwise it cannot be otherwise.
Our athletes have been competing in international competitions since 2010. And it would probably be impossible to count the number of doping samples that have been taken during this time. The samples have always been clean, and I hope they will remain so.
We have always taught and explained to our athletes and their parents that they should be more careful with taking even the simplest cold medications, and you can not trust, unfortunately, absolutely no one.
And now, after two years, nothing has become clear, the origin of this drug has not been investigated, and there are still a lot of questions. And only accusations from different sides are flying in our direction.
I have no questions about Kamila, she is a child, and I will continue to support her in every possible way. No offense to all my previous athletes – Kamila is the most gifted athlete. And she has been through an ordeal that is hard to describe in words.
Regarding the verdict, I have one main question – did anyone defend Kamila at the hearing? Because the verdict couldn’t have been worse.
Kamila’s story is our pain,” the honored coach of Russia wrote.
