Today it became known that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled on the disqualification of figure skater Kamila Valieva for 4 years for doping. The disqualification began on December 25, 2021, and the results of her performances from this date were canceled.

The figure skater tested positive for trimetazidine during the Russian Championships on December 25, 2021. This information became known after the completion of the team tournament of the 2022 Beijing Olympics, where the Russian team took first place.

The CAS release noted that the consequences associated with Valieva’s retroactive disqualification for participation in previous events, including participation in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, were not within the scope of the current arbitration procedure and should be considered by the relevant sports organizations. Thus, the decision on the possible redistribution of team event medals will remain with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
