Aliona Kostornaia told how her surgery went – I didn’t choke, and thank you for that

Read Time:3 Minute, 38 Second

“Friends, you all see the news that the athlete will undergo surgery, and a little later a happy face and words that everything went according to plan, everything is fine.
But what happens between these events?
I will tell my story, I have already had a similar experience and would like to share it with you.

The night before, from 10-11 pm, it is forbidden to eat and drink (in general, not even water, NOTHING). Around 7 am they woke me up, took a blood test and told me to wait. At about 10:30 the doctor came in and asked about my mood (damn, what a mood, I’m a real SCARED PENGUIN), I laughed it off and started getting ready. You need to change clothes, be sure to put on stockings and remove all jewelry.

At 10:45 they took me to the operating room, laid me on the table, put a catheter in, gave me an injection in the neck (it turned out to be very unpleasant), and allowed me to breathe through a mask. After 4-5 seconds, complete darkness sets in, you don’t understand what’s happening, you simply fall out of the world for a certain number of hours.

The operation takes place and then comes out of anesthesia. Slowly the realization comes that that’s it, you need to open your eyes. The harsh light of the intensive care unit and nurses and doctors scurrying back and forth. I’m trying to say that I’m up, but I can’t, the endotrachial tube doesn’t allow me to speak or breathe, and I’m starting to choke. The doctors come running and remove her (fuuuuhhh she didn’t suffocate and thank you for that). The throat burns, the taste of the substance used to treat the instruments, nausea and complete lack of strength. I close my eyes and fall asleep again for a couple of hours. After waking up, the nausea does not go away, nor does the vile taste, I begin to move and realize that from the collarbone to the lower abs I feel nothing and cannot move. I get upset and pass out again for an hour and a half.

It’s already evening, the nurses wake me up and raise the headboard. I check the movement of my hands, the right one works perfectly, but the left one cannot show the slightest movement of the fingers, a feeling of complete disappointment and increasing pain. I wait 20 minutes and try to wake up my hand – I strain my fingers, my hand, at least minimal movements. Slowly the fingers began to move. I pull back the blanket and see that each finger is swollen to the size of a healthy hand, and I panic. I’m trying to remember how it was last time (hip surgery) – it was worse. The panic goes away, I continue to try to move my fingers, and I finally manage to do it.

Result: after 5 hours only my fingers started working.
I was transferred from intensive care to a regular ward, I get dressed (it was very difficult), collect my thoughts and go to the doctor. The doctor says that the structure is in place, the screws are in place, but I ask that they discharge me in the morning. The doctor does not give an exact answer and sends me back to the ward. I go to bed and fall asleep. I wake up at 2 am from unreal pain, as if blades were stuck into my shoulder and they were twisting them, trying to dig a hole. I called a nurse and they injected me with painkillers. I suffered for about 20 minutes. As soon as the medicine worked, I immediately felt better and fell asleep again.

In the morning, I already understood how to manage without the help of a hand and saw how the first rehabilitation would go. They bandaged me, injected me with painkillers, and I went to the doctor to get a discharge. After telling for a long time why I urgently needed to be discharged, I began to whine and an hour later I was on my way home.
And after 5 I was already back at the skating rink with my favorite athletes)” – Posted by Kostornaia
