Ilia Malinin after the free program: “I’m in shock now.”
Ilia Malinin won at the 2024 World Figure Skating Championships with a world record for the free skating program (227.79 points).
“I’m in shock right now. It means so much to me. It’s been really hard for me to train the last couple weeks. I even had the thought that I wouldn’t be able to compete at the World Championships. So I’m so happy just to be here and also to be on top of the podium. I got through the challenges, I trusted my training and my parents, my coaches, my team, they really helped me through everything. And I’m so happy that I was able to get a result here. There was a quiet voice in my head that said, “No matter what you have to keep fighting, you have to keep going, no matter how bad or good you feel, you just have to know what you’re capable of and stick to your muscle memory. And, of course, remember the training you’ve gone through,” Malinin said in the press area after the ride.
