The toughest tests for Kamila Valieva
Only a few weeks ago, Kamila Valieva’s participation in the Kazan Grand Prix was in doubt. At the end of September, CAS, considering the case of the Russian figure skater, decided to hold additional hearings, explaining it by the need to collect “additional documentation”. The new hearing dates were set just before the Kazan stage, for which Kamila had already been entered.
Recognizing the difficulties of combining the two events, the FFCCR noted that if there is a valid reason (and Valieva’s situation is clearly such) it is possible to postpone her performances – there are two more stages ahead. Nevertheless, Valieva insisted on her participation in the competition. In fact, immediately after taking part in the court (which she did online), she will have to enter an official tournament for the first time in the season. This will require a huge effort, first of all psychological, to prepare for her performance in the short and free program.
In addition, the level of competitors at the fourth round of the Grand Prix was very high. Kamila will face the main star of “Plushenko’s Angels” Sofia Muravyeva and very ambitious Alina Gorbacheva. Sofia Fedchenko’s pupil almost ousted Adelia Petrosyan from first place in Omsk, and also demonstrated a quadruple salchow in training. Apparently, Gorbacheva is serious about a successful performance in Kazan.
