Yuzuru Hanyu’s interview after the first RE_PRAY in Saga
Translation of a short interview that Yuzuru Hanyu gave at the conclusion of the performances of the first day of his RE_PRAY solo show in Saga.
– What are your impressions after completing the first round [of the first show] in Kyushu at the beginning of the year?
I was very happy to skate in front of you, plus I really wanted to give you this ice show in the form of a story, I created it hoping that you would enjoy both the story itself and the skating of its characters. I skated it hoping that you would all experience the story in different ways.
– What do you think of Saga Prefecture?
I haven’t gotten to Kyushu much this time of year. It was much warmer than I expected, but maybe it was just coincidence. It’s January now, but it’s so warm and the town has a very cozy atmosphere. Even getting to the venue by car, I looked at the scenery and felt calm.
– What do you want to convey to the people of Saga Prefecture through your ice story?
It’s in the epilogue – if you don’t stop, a new day will eventually come. There may be times when you don’t feel like striving for a new day, I felt the same way during 3.11 [the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011], but I’ll be very happy if through this story you feel at least a little bit like going towards your dreams and fighting for tomorrow again.
