Of course, I wanted more. Today was a little difficult. But I did my best today. We’re all human. I was very tense, I don’t usually have that this season. I knew it was impossible to stay first. I knew it would be difficult because my preparation was not perfect. Maybe that’s what caused the stress. After the European Championships, I didn’t do a single free skating program in full – first I was recovering from the tournament, and then I got injured.
Being the first after the short program at such a big tournament is a new experience for me, I probably couldn’t cope with the pressure. I need to work on my confidence, I’m always too nervous before performances.
But I’m still very proud of my small gold medal after the short program – because I wasn’t sure until the last moment that I would even come to Montreal. So I don’t feel disappointed, in any other situation I would have cried a long time ago, but not today. Yes, this time I’m fourth, but that’s life, we all make mistakes, it’s also an experience.
The day before yesterday in the broadcast the commentator said that at my first junior Grand Prix I was 16th, and that who would have said then that in many years I would be able to win medals at such big tournaments. I would like young skaters to remember that success doesn’t necessarily come quickly, you just can’t give up.
I admire Kaori Sakamoto – she is very stable, she has so much confidence, and I really miss that. I need to learn to believe in myself,” Hendricks said
