Kamilla and Pavel Kovalev have withdrawn from the free program at the European Championships.

This was announced by the coach of the French couple Laurent Depuis.

The day before, Camille fell on the ejection in the short program. Coming off the ice after the roll, she lay on the floor behind the board for a long time and could not get up. In social network she said that she had poisoned herself on the eve of the start.

After the short program, the Kovalevs were in 15th place in the standings.

Kamilla Kovaleva’s appeal:

“Yesterday after our short program we received many messages of support and many people were worried that they didn’t see me in the Kiss&Cry area.
First of all, we would like to thank you for your support.

To explain the situation a little bit: since Monday evening I have been very sick, probably it’s a matter of poisoning. Therefore, I can no longer eat and sleep properly. We tried to adapt the training as much as possible to be able to compete, and until the last minute we hoped that my health would improve…

Unfortunately, yesterday it was very difficult to perform the short program and my strength was running out. After consulting with the whole team (medical team, coaching staff and the French Figure Skating Federation) this morning, after the training, it was decided not to skate today in order not to jeopardize my health. Thus, this is the end of the European Championships 2024 for us.

Our disappointment is unbelievable because we have been preparing and we can’t show our work.

We will now rest and recover so that we can resume training as soon as possible when we return to France.

This time the summit was too high and we couldn’t reach it. But we are not giving up yet.

Thank you to our coaches, to everyone who cared in the arena and in the broadcast, for your support. Thank you to the entire medical team in attendance for doing the best they could in this situation.
Thank you all for your messages that warm our hearts during this difficult time.”
