Alexandra Trusova explained why she returned to Eteri Tutberidze’s group.
In May 2020, the figure skater left Tutberidze for Evgeny Plushenko’s group, but in May 2021, she came back. Since October 2022, she has been training with Svetlana Sokolovskaya.
“I probably never fought for a coach’s attention. Of course, competition spurs you to work harder all the time. But especially with the transition, where I didn’t have competition, I realized that it was partly maybe a little bit harder for me. But I was able to work that way.
Knowing that I could do both – it wasn’t that I was fighting for something. No, I was doing my thing, practicing, rebuilding everything. And from the first time I came off vacation, I knew what the content was going to be, all the coaches knew.
On the first day I was doing quadruple lutz. Two days later I was already jumping the axel. Two weeks later I was jumping a quadruple flip.
I did my first clean ride with five quadruples at the end of July. And all the coaches clapped, sat and clapped. And so I knew exactly how long it would take me to roll five quadruples.
But the next day I twisted my foot. And then it was more difficult”, – said the silver medalist of the Olympics-2022 Alexandra Trusova.
Alexandra Trusova explained why she does not consider it a betrayal to leave her coaches.
– What was the reason for your transition to Plushenko?
– I will answer now. I think it will be an answer to all my transitions, coming back and so on. I don’t consider it a betrayal. I have never considered it and I don’t consider it now.
I feel great about all the coaches I’ve trained with. I can go to anyone, ask something, ask to talk – and they will help me. And also they can write something at any time – and I will understand everything perfectly, I will also do what I need to do.
I believe that this is development. Each coach has his own approach. And the athlete, if he has such a desire, has the right to try [to work] in different coaching staffs and decide where he feels more comfortable. And in any case, gain experience that he didn’t have on the other team.
The approach is very different. I’m not saying it’s better somewhere and worse somewhere, it’s just different. And when you combine two different approaches, it turns out that you have knowledge not from one coaching staff, but from two. And you become stronger,” said 2022 Olympic silver medalist Alexandra Trusova.
Alexandra Trusova also answered the blitz questions.
- What can move you?
- Everything at the moment. There was no such thing before. I watched movies, “Titanic” – it didn’t cause any emotions. And now just a video can come across. I can watch a movie, it’s not sad, but at some point I get a lump in my throat. At some points in my life, tears may flow. And I don’t understand why that is.
- What can throw you off your game?
- Probably nothing right now.
- How do you like to spend your free time alone?
- The dogs will lie around me, I’ll take my phone and flip through something.
- Are there any friendships in figure skating?
- No.
- When was the last time you cried?
- Today. I was watching a video, I’m telling you.
- What can cheer you up in any state of mind?
- My dogs.
- Family or career?
- Family, of course.
- A big wedding or a modest ceremony at the registry office?
- Actually, both. I want one dress, then another, then another, then another. I’d go for a lush one if I had to choose.
- Roses or peonies?
- Roses.
- Malinin or Hanyu?
- They’re incomparable, it’s impossible to choose. Just like if you put Nathan in the top three. Totally different.
- Olympic gold or world record?
- Right now, Olympic gold. Because I have a lot of records,” Trusova said.
