Yuzuru Hanyu announced his divorce from his wife due to stalking and excessive media attention

Two-time Olympic figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu announced on his social networks that he is divorcing his wife.

Among the reasons cited are clashing (harassment) and excessive media attention. Hanyu had reported the wedding in August this year.

“After thinking about the future, I have decided to divorce as I want my partner to be happy. And I want this happiness not to be accompanied by any restrictive measures,” Hanyu wrote.

The figure skater finished his career in 2022.

Yuzuru posted a message on his official X social media page:

“Thank you so much to everyone who always gives support and warm words. Even though this is a personal matter, I would like to share this with you.

I got married to an ordinary man. We married in mutual respect, with a determination to cherish each other. We lived through hardships together, thinking about how we could protect each of us. Living this way, my partner, even in a situation where it was impossible to leave the house, continued to support me and make efforts to protect me.

Nowadays, the relatives and acquaintances of this ordinary person and she (herself), as well as my relatives and acquaintances, are being slandered, harassed, unauthorizedly interviewed and filmed in various media.

Even being in a residential house, one can notice suspicious cars and people around, suddenly hear someone talking about us.

Although we were both worried, we tried to protect each other from such situations. However, due to my immaturity in such circumstances, it became extremely difficult, unbearable to continue to protect my partner and myself.

This kind of situation will continue, and even if it gets better for a while, there is a possibility that it will happen again. Thinking about the future, I want my partner to be happy. And since I want my partner to be happy without any restrictions, I have made the decision to divorce.

Henceforth, I request you to stop slander, harassment, unauthorized interviews, denunciations, causing problems to my partner – a common man, his acquaintances and relatives, as well as people related to me and my relatives. The second message Yuzuru posted was signed by his team Sirius:
